Mayor's Annual New Year's Day Levee
Mayor Susan Fennell and Members of Council invite all residents to join them in welcoming 2006 at the Mayor's Annual New Year's Day Levee on Jan.1, 2006 in the Atrium of City Hall from 1 to 3 p.m.
Every year, the Mayor and Council open the doors of City Hall on New Year's Day to meet residents and ring in the new year. The tradition of the Mayor's Levee began in the 18th century during the reign of King Louis XIV. It was designed to reinforce the idea that the sovereign was responsible to the people.
The governor of New France, who would sit on the doorstep of his home on New Year's Day to greet residents, brought the tradition to Canada. While the custom of the levee has changed over the years, the intent is the same as it was in the beginning - to show the government's role of public service and extend best wishes for the new year
The Brampton Concert Band and Lorne Scots Pipe Band will entertain at this year's New Year's Day Levee and refreshments will be provided. Residents are encouraged to bring their skates and take advantage of Gage Park's beautiful outdoor ice rink after the Levee. Brampton City Hall is located at 2 Wellington St. W. Gage Park is across the street from City Hall. Free parking will be available in the City Hall parking garage.

The founding member of Toronto's acclaimed Shuffle Demons, he has toured Europe and Canada to critical acclaim for over 20 years. Jordan Knight is coming to the Heritage!
Performing music from his recent solo projects plus some fan favourites from the extensive catalogue of New Kids on the Block, Jordan Knight takes to stage right after concert openers “The Show”.
As frequent lead vocalist for New Kids On The Block, Jordan Knight toured the world's stages, belting out a pop-R&B rap hybrid that climbed to the Top 20 ten times in half as many years, sparked a revolution in merchandising, and endeared five young men to millions of crazed fans.
His fame endures as evidenced by the tens of thousands of fans that visit his web page (www.jordanknight.com) every week. As a solo artist, Knight enlisted the help of veteran producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. As it turns out, Jam and Lewis were intrigued by Knight's concepts for his first solo album and quickly took the gig. The album turned out to be a success. Brent Butt
Canada's favourite low-key funny-man is coming to the Heritage Theatre.
The creator and star of the smash hit sitcom “Corner Gas”, Brent brings his own unique comic perspective to the Heritage stage.
For the last 16 years, Brent Butt has secured a reputation as one of the funniest people in the country. His relaxed, conversational style of "coffee shop" humour has made him one of the most popular stand-up comedians on the circuit. He was named "Best Male Standup" at the Canadian Comedy Awards, and was chosen to represent Canada on the International Stage in Australia and Singapore.
Brent's ability to get live laughs has translated to success in television, with appearances on A&E, HBO, CBC, Global, and The Comedy Network, and now as the creator, star, and executive producer of the hit new comedy series Corner Gas on CTV.
