Mayor's Annual New Year's Day Levee
Mayor Susan Fennell and Members of Council invite all Brampton residents to join them for hot chocolate and light refreshments to welcome 2008 at the Mayor's Annual New Year's Day Levee. Music provided by The Brampton Concert Band and Pipes & Drums of the Lorne Scots "Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment." Bring your skates and enjoy an afternoon of skating at Gage Park. -- During the reign of King Louis XIV, to confirm that the sovereign belonged to the people, he would invite gentlemen into his bedroom to watch him wake and begin serving the public. This custom was brought to Canada by the Governor of New France. He would sit on the doorstep of his Quebec residence on New Year's morning to greet the citizens. The tradition has evolved throughout the years but the intent is the same as it was in the beginning: to show the Government's role of public service and extend best wishes for the New Year.

Classic Albums Live- The Beatles - The White Album
This double album is in fact called The Beatles (officially it's the ninth Beatles album), and was released in 1968. It is most often referred to as The White Album, as it has no text other than the band's name on its plain white sleeve. The album was released near to the height of the Beatles' popularity, and is often hailed as one of the major accomplishments in popular music. It was originally planned to be called A Doll's House. In 1997 The White Album was named the 10th greatest album of all time. With this album, each of the four band members began to showcase the range and depth of his individual songwriting talents and styles that would be carried over to their eventual solo careers. Rose Theatre audiences know the incredible calibre of the Classic Albums Live shows. This one will be no exception and will sell-out fast.

Natural & Heritage Trail Meeting
ACO Brampton is calling a public meeting to form a Natural & Heritage Trail Association to create, develop and manage a publicly accessible walking trail in the Northern section of the Claireville Conservation Area in Brampton. Doors open at 9.30 am to allow participants time to view several trail association displays, as well as touring and admiring this beautifully restored 1858 Church which is now used as an example of "preserving our rural past" and as a public meeting place. The meeting starts at 10 am with a short slide presentation and talk by Brampton ACO president Bob Hulley who will outline his vision of a natural and heritage trail for the area. He will be followed by Bill Wilson who was instrumental in forming the Humber Valley Heritage Trail Association in Bolton. The purpose of the meeting is to attract participants who would form an association similar to the Humber Valley or Bruce Trail Association which would help lay out, build and maintain the trail. The meeting will probably last until 11.30 am. After that time visitors can socialize, tour the building and examine displays by various trail associations. While coffee will be available, people should bring their own snacks. From Highway 7 (Queen Street) drive north on the Gore Road for about a kilometre to the Chapel Hall, which is at the southeast intersection of Gore and Ebenezer Sideroad. On site parking is limited, but visitors can also park at the Brampton Community building on the west side of Gore Road, opposite the Chapel. This is your opportunity to become involved in an environmentally friendly project that will be a benefit to the community.

Networks On Tour:The Producers
Max Bialystock is a failed, aging Broadway producer who ekes out a living romancing rich old women in exchange for money for his "next play." He encounters the nebbish accountant Leo Bloom when the latter is sent to Bialystock's office to do his books; in the process of this, a chance comment by Bloom inspires a scheme to massively oversell shares in a Broadway production, then purposely make a horrific flop, so that no one will ever audit its books, thus avoiding a payout and leaving the duo free to flee to Brazil with the profits. After an extensive search they find an unproduced play which Bialystock gleefully describes as "a love letter to Hitler," written in total sincerity by a deranged ex-Nazi named Franz Liebkind. They convince Liebkind to sign over the rights, then collect money from dozens of little old ladies-ultimately selling 25,000 percent of the play-and hire the monumentally untalented director Roger De Bris to stage the production. The part of Hitler goes to a charismatic hippie named Lorenzo St. Dubois (aka LSD), who wanders into the wrong theater by accident during the casting call. The result of all of this is Springtime for Hitler, a cheerfully upbeat (and apocalyptically tasteless) musical comedy detailing the life of the dictator, which opens with a lavish production number celebrating Nazi Germany overrunning Europe. Unfortunately for the protagonists, their attempt to make an unwatchable play backfires as, after initial dumbfounded disbelief, the audience finds the inept production so funny that they view it as an over-the-top satire on Nazism and universally hail it as a hit. An all-out, gut-buster of a musical comedy romp this is one show guaranteed to leave you in tears... of laughter! A must-see for anyone who hasn't seen it yet... and for anyone who has!

Emilie-Claire Barlow & Patricia O'Callaghan In Concert
This is one Ladies Night you won't soon forget!” The Rose Theatre is proud to present and incredible evening of music starring “the next big thing in jazz”, singer Emilie-Claire Barlow and rising opera singer Patricia O'Callaghan. If these names aren't familiar to you yet... read on. If they are... order now to get the seats you know you want! Emilie-Claire Barlow may have been called "the next big thing in jazz" (CBC - Canada Now), but Emilie-Claire is no newcomer to the music business. She started her career as a singer and voice actor at the age of seven, lending her voice to various television and radio jingles and voice-overs. Her 2006 release, the self produced and arranged, Winter Wonderland elevated Emilie-Claire's profile on both a national and international level. With a stack of rave reviews, a spot in the TOP 10 holiday albums on iTunes, and a circuit of National Television appearances to promote W.W. under her belt (Etalk, Canada AM, Gill Deacon)- Barlow has kicked her career into high gear. Her stunning new release, The Very Thought Of You may be Emilie-Claire's most personal album to date. There is an up-close and intimate tone that starts with the gorgeous cover art, and continues throughout this entire recording. The arrangements are fresh and focused, and all her own. Joined by an all-star band (Reg Schwager, Nancy Walker, Kieran Overs, Mark Kelso) and some fabulous guest soloists (Kelly Jefferson, Kevin Turcotte, Bill McBirnie, Alan Hetherington) Emilie-Claire leads the group, including a large string ensemble, through gems from the American Songbook (Almost Like being In Love, What A Little Moonlight Can Do, Surrey With The Fringe on Top), beautiful bossa novas (So Many Stars, De Conversa Em Conversa), and even a few tunes en francais! (C'est Si Bon, Les Yeux Ouverts). This most recent album is romantic, playful, lush, swinging......timeless. Emilie-Claire promises to bring the same to her performance at the Rose Theatre.

Oscar Lopez And James Keelaghan -The Compadres
You will want to be there when two of the world's foremost guitar virtuosos come together as “Compadres” for an evening of fiery instrumentals, heavenly harmonies and lively musical magic! Individual soloists and multiple award-winning guitar players Oscar Lopez and James Keelaghan describe the musical blend their joint-venture creates as 'celtino', a distinctive blend of Celtic and Latino flourishes that together create an entirely new hybrid. Canadian folk music singer songwriter James Keelaghan is known for his baritone voice that soothes, seduces, and packs a punch. His debut album, Timelines (1987) was a collection of historically themed ballads. On his ninth album, A Few Simple Verses (2006), he's coming at history the way a folk singer would, unabashedly paying tribute to songs he loves, many of which his father used to sing, many of which have no definite origin, all of which are part of living history. Many of his songs are narratives and weave fascinating stories. James' vocals resonate with the passion of those stories and his guitar work is especially intricate and captivating. Oscar Lopez's Latin guitar groove has made him a standout on the world music scene. Never afraid to venture into different genres, Lopez easily incorporates jazz, blues, and even pop sensibilities into his music. His deep commitment to his art has earned Lopez a Juno win for his 2000 offering Armando's Fire (Best Instrumental Album), critics praise, and thousands of devoted fans who have filled theatres around the country to experience his amazing performances first hand. Performing to sold-out audiences across the country, he was named Instrumentalist of the Year by the Prairie Music Awards, and has been honoured with 3 Juno nominations. Oscar's earlier albums - Armando's Fire, Heat, and Seduction - blazed to the Top 20 of Billboard's "New Age" music chart, receiving widespread critical acclaim. Now, the Rose Theatre is proud to bring these two musical maestro's to the stage for an incredible evening any music lover would enjoy.
