July 17 - Monday 8pm Monday Night Movie Review "Akeelah and the Bee" directed by Doug Atchison and featuring Angela Bassett, Lawrence Fishburne, and Keke Palmer as Akeelah, a charming, and yet insecure 11 year-old from a gang-ridden area of Los Angeles. While flipping through the channels one day, Akeelah watches coverage of the National Spelling Bee. She has recently discovered her own talent as a speller and becomes entranced by the idea of making it to this competition. The problem is that academic talent is not valued in a community where athleticism and rapping abound. Eventually her principal pairs her with a mentor, in the character played by Lawrence Fishburne. Her mother, played by Bassett, wonders about the value of pursuing a hobby of this type. Rated PG for some language. Heritage Theatre 905-874-2800 |

Reilly, Tommy Lee Jones and written by Garrison Keillor, long-time star of the radio show of the same name. Prairie Home Companion is the story of a radio show that survives in the television age. The all-star cast plays roles as various acts on the radio show in this playful story that takes place on a rainy night in St. Paul Minnesota, as fans file into the auditorium to see the show... but they do not know that tonight's show will be the last. July 31 - Monday 8pm Monday Night Movie Review "Neil Young: Heart of Gold" directed by Johnathan Demme and featuring Neil Young. Neil Young was diagnosed in 2005 with a brain aneurysm. Four days before the surgery, he headed into a Nashville studio to record Prairie Wind with friends and family. After the successful operation and a period of recovery, he returned to Nashville for a concert with many of the same people with whom he recorded the album. The film is both a concert film and a story about our mortality. Along with nine of the ten songs from the album, Neil leads the collected group in some older hits, including Four Strong Winds and Comes a Time. Rated PG for drug-related lyrics.
