Where is the biggest tree in Brampton? The Friends of Claireville are inviting the people of Brampton to nominate their favourite Heritage Tree! This is great family fun and easy to do! A long piece of string in your pocket is all you need! This is a great opportunity to catalog and protect a piece of our history and heritage. Finalists will be featured in the Brampton Guardian. "PRINCESS OPENS SYMPHONY SEASON"
BSO Symphony OPENING NIGHT "Sympfusion"
Her Imperial Highness Princess Thi-Nga of Vietnam will open the 21st season of the Brampton Symphony Orchestra by presenting the first BSO Diverse Culture Award to a deserving Vietnamese musician.
Performers include harpist Andrew Chan, violinist Sarah Nematallah, song stylist Toni Anderson, tenor Salvatore Gambino and soprano Iris Rodrigues. Special guest is prominent family patriarch Dr. Brian Thicke of Brampton whose sons Alan, Todd and grandson Robin Thicke are prominent in Hollywood film and music. Dr. Thicke narrates Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait.
The SYMPFUSION concert features two premieres: the Canadian premiere of composer Matthew Tran-Adams' The Refuge Child and the world premiere of BSO Conductor Robert Raines' Healing Light Anthem. Other musical selections include Cuban Ernesto Lecuona's Malaguena, Italian Ennnio Morricone's Se from Cinema Paradiso, and Brazilian Heitor Villa Lobos' Bacchianas Brasilieras.
Also on the program is Summertime from Porgy and Bess, Fiddler on the Roof,
Harry Belafonte's Turn the World Around, the Handel Harp Concerto and Introduction and Rondo Capricioso for Violin.

Remembrance Day Parade & Service - Branch 15
A parade and service to recognize the sacrifices made by the men and women of Brampton and to remember those who died in battle and veterans who have since passed on.
Immediately following Remembrance Day Service, Branch 15
will conduct a Drumhead Service and Dedication Ceremony at 80 Mary Street.
This significant event marks the moving of three Charters and their flag
from the old Legion building on 40 Elizabeth Street South and the
declaration of the Legion's new home at 80 Mary Street.
The parade to move a Charter and flag is rare one and has
not been executed in Brampton for several generations.
Members of the public are encouraged to follow the parade
from the Cenotaph to 80 Mary Street to witness the Drumhead Service.

The 2007 Women of Achievement Awards recognize the leadership displayed by women in a number of fields of interest. George Carlin

To date, George Carlin's 13 HBO specials have garnered three Emmy nominations and won six CableACE awards, and thus far eight of those HBO shows have been released in two separate DVD packages. Carlin picked up two additional Emmy nominations in the early ‘90's, playing the part of Mister Conductor in 45 episodes of the critically acclaimed PBS children's show, “Shining Time Station.”
In 1997, Carlin ventured into a new field as Hyperion published his first book, Braindroppings, a collection of original routines, one-liners, commentaries and essays. In hard cover and paperback, the book spent a total of 40 weeks on The New York Times Best-Seller list and has sold 850,000 copies. The “book-on-tape” version, read by Carlin himself, won the 2001 Grammy in the Best Spoken Comedy category, the latest of his three Grammys.
A second book, Napalm & Silly Putty, written in the same style as the first, was published in April 2001, reaching the Number One spot on the New York Times Best-Seller list in its second week. The combined hardback and paperback editions have sold over 500,000 copies and a third book, When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?, followed. This one went to Number 2 on the New York Times Best-Seller list as well as being banned by Wal-Mart. When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? and George were both nominated for two Quill Awards.
Meanwhile Carlin has leant his acting and vocal talents to numerous movies and animated features including Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl, Tarzan II, The Wild Life, and Happily N'Ever After and most recently, Cars where George was the voice of "Fillmore" the hippie van.
And somehow he still manages to make time for more than 90 live appearances a year!

Thursday Night Studio Series Presents ... HARRY MANX
Harry Manx is beyond a doubt one of the most original Folk-World-Blues performers touring today. Born in the U.K. and now residing in Canada, Manx performs lap slide guitar, blues harp, the six-stringed banjo, and most uniquely the Mohan Veena, a guitar/sitar hybrid created and named by Indian musical guru Vishwa Mohan Bhatt.
Harry has lived and toured for years throughout Europe, Japan and India. In 1990, while in Japan, he discovered a recording of the Indian slide guitarist, V.M. Bhatt. It proved to be an epiphany that soon drew Harry to India to become a student of Bhatt's who later won a Grammy Award for his work with Ry Cooder in 1994. Manx remained with V.M. Bhatt for five years in a quest to master the sonic intricacies and beauty inherent in the Mohan Veena.
Harry's music has been called an "essential link" between the music of East and West. His songs are short stories that draw from the essence of the blues and the depth of Indian polytonal ragas. It's more than evident on Harry's critically acclaimed recordings, including his new CD "West Eats Meet."
Harry's shows are intimate and magical. Audiences inevitably become enraptured in the diversity of his performances, listening intently while he performs original songs as well as unique takes on classic blues numbers and the odd pop song like Crazy Love by Van Morrison performed on the Mohan Veena.
A wry sense of humor and worldly stories enhance Harry Manx's live performances that continue to build audiences exponentially.
