Street partyParades, road races, street and block parties are events enjoyed by adults and children alike. A little time and preparation is all that is needed to ensure that these events go smoothly.

If a full or partial road closure is necessary for your event, the Corporation of the City of Brampton requires you to fill out a road closure application and, once approved, obtain a road occupancy permit. You application must be submitted at least six weeks prior to your event.

Checklist of Requirements

All of the following may or may not apply in all situations. Contact Works and Transportation Department for details.

  1. To obtain, install and remove all necessary signing and barricading as per the standards indicated (see Required Signs and Barricades) to physically close the road in a safe manner and according to the instructions and satisfaction of the Public Works Commissioner.
  2. To clean the road in a thorough manner satisfactory to the Works and Transportation Commissioner immediately following completion of the event.
  3. To ensure that no fire will be permitted within the road allowance.
  4. To provide a petition signed by all those residents who are directly affected by the event, indicating either concurrence or disagreement with the proposed event.
  5. To notify immediately prior to, and upon termination of, the closure to the following authorities:
    • Peel Regional Police: 905-453-3311
    • Brampton Fire and Emergency Services: 905-456-5788
    • Peel Regional Ambulance Services: 905-459-3424

City of Brampton’s Responsibilities

The Works and Transportation Department will:

  • Circulate the request to the Peel Regional Police, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, Brampton Transit (if necessary) and the City’s Road Maintenance Division for review and their comments. Note: The Police may interview the applicant to discuss issues such as organization, noise and alcohol use.
  • Receive comments and prepare a report for consideration by City Council.
    Advise you of Council’s decision.
  • When your application is approved, Works and Transportation will issue a “Road Occupancy Permit”.

Required Signs and Barricades

Barricades & Road Closed SignsThe TC-53A or 53B Barricades shall be used for short term road
closures to prevent vehicular traffic from entering the designated area.

The Road Closed Sign (RB92) shall be used where a roadway must be temporarily closed and traffic must utilize an alternate route.
